Couples & Relationship Support

My Approach

My training in attachment-based couple’s counselling therapy from Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Stan Tatkin’s Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), and The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy - The Couples Institute® with Ellyn Bader offer a way for couples to learn to communicate in ways that bring them closer together.

I help couples work together to feel their emotions, recognize how to move with or away from their vulnerabilities and needs, and tune in to their partner's needs. Within this framework, my clients learn to pinpoint the habits that keep them stuck. My clients start to understand negative communication patterns and learn to express their fears and concerns to their partners in safe and respectful ways.

If you answer yes to the following questions, couple counselling might be a good fit for you and your partner:

  • Do you love your partner but feel like the connection has faded?

  • Do you find that you do not share with your partner because you feel that they don’t understand you?

  • Do you feel alone in your relationship or feel that your partner doesn’t care about you as they used to?

Here’s the thing, relationships are complex, and it takes work and commitment to create a securely attached relationship.

I have been with my spouse for almost 20 years and we have been married for over 10 years, and we still get into little arguments!

The goal is not to avoid disputes. The goal is to repair efficiently and effectively and move towards secure attachment.

“Patricia is deeply kind, compassionate and trustworthy.”

She held space for me when I faced a challenging time and offered a grounding presence. When we all had to stay home two years ago, Patricia created a weekly zoom group to offer mutual support. I'm very grateful to have such a solid person in my life.
